Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has received confirmation from the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD that the identification and acquisition of sites for the 2 new post-primary schools to serve the communities of Malahide & Portmarnock, and Swords, and for the permanent building for the Malahide Portmarnock Educate Together national school are being advanced by the Department.
“I am pleased with the confirmation I have received from the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD, that site identification and acquisition for the 2 new post-primary schools for Malahide & Portmarnock, and Swords is being advanced. This process is also underway for the permanent site for the Malahide Portmarnock Educate Together national school.
“Minister Bruton has informed me that his Department are liaising with Fingal County Council to identify and acquire suitable sites for all three schools. Both new post-primary schools will open in September 2017 in temporary accommodation until a new permanent building is delivered in 2019-2021, with each new school having the capacity for 1,000 students. The project to deliver a permanent building Malahide Portmarnock Educate Together national school is also on the Department’s construction programme.
“An agreement in principle has been reached in relation to a site for new post-primary school in Swords and the Department of Education and Skills is working towards the acquisition of this site.
“Furthermore, in relation to sites for both the new post-primary school for Malahide & Portmarnock, and the Malahide Portmarnock Educate Together national school, a possible site for each of these schools has been identified and the Department are currently carrying out an assessment of the technical suitability of these sites.
“I will continue to actively engage with Minister Bruton and the Department of Education and Skills in relation to these new schools for the North County, and all in regard to the infrastructural investment needed in schools in every local community in Dublin Fingal.”
