Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has welcomed the announcement today (Tuesday) by the Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD, that €823,000 is being allocated to Fingal County Council to return 52 vacant social housing units in Dublin Fingal to use.
“It is great news for the Fingal community that 52 housing units are going to be returned to use through the latest round of funding from the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.”
“The latest announcement of €15 million to return houses to use brings the total amount invested in this programme this year to €30 million. There are many people who are waiting for housing, while houses remain vacant and boarded up. We must continue to return these houses to use by carrying out the necessary renovations to turn them into suitable family homes. I am delighted to see that this is a priority within the Department.”
“Often boarded-up housing units are an eyesore in the local community and they can become focal points for anti-social behaviour, this funding announcement will not only tackle this problem, but it will also create employment opportunities in the local community. In fact, local authorities were encouraged to examine the role that local organisations which recruit, train and engage long-term unemployed people can play in the refurbishment of these 52 housing units.”
