Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has said the agreement in principle between the HSE and Vertex on the commercial aspects of the supply of Orkambi to Cystic Fibrosis patients, aged 12 years and over, and for Kalydeco, for patients between the ages of 2 and 5, is great news for many in Dublin Fingal.
“I am pleased with confirmation from the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, that agreement in principle has been reached between the HSE and Vertex to allow for the supply of Orkambi to Cystic Fibrosis patients aged 12 and older, and Kalydeco, for patients between the ages of 2 and 5.
“The negotiation process between the HSE and Vertex has been going on for a long period, during which patients, and their families and friends have been faced with great uncertainty regarding whether they would be able to access these drugs.
“Following this agreement in principle, both the HSE and Vertex are now working to complete the approval process and the contractual agreements which would allow Orkambi and Kalydeco to be supplied to Cystic Fibrosis patients from May 1st.
“I am pleased that agreement in principle has also been reached to allow for the provision of these drugs for other treatments and age groups, following market authorisation in Europe.
“Many people who have cystic fibrosis, their families, and friends have been active in campaigning for Orkambi, and Kalydeco to be made available, I am delighted that this issue is now reaching a positive conclusion. This is great news for many individuals in Dublin Fingal who have Cystic Fibrosis and may be able to avail of these drugs.”
