Announcement of first ever direct route between Dublin & Hong Kong has potential to greatly benefit our country

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has said the announcement of a new direct flight service from Dublin to Hong Kong, operated by Cathay Pacific, four times per week is great news for the North County, and for the entire Irish economy.

“I am delighted with the announcement from Cathay Pacific of four direct flights per week between Dublin and Hong Kong, starting from next June. The fact that this service will be the first ever direct route between Dublin and the Asia-Pacific region shows that the links between our economy and growing markets are continuing to grow and strengthen.

“This announcement will certainly benefit the wider economy, by creating greater transport links for Irish exporters and indigenous businesses, helping to attract greater levels of Foreign Direct Investment, and facilitating increased levels of tourism from growing markets.

“Continuing to develop transport links with emerging and growing economies across the world is essential in terms of generating new markets for Irish goods, attracting greater levels of investment into our economy, and supporting jobs in the tourism and hospitality sector.

“The announcement of new routes to Dublin Airport, such as this service being provided by Cathay Pacific, is testament to the work of Fine Gael in Government in terms of broadening our economic base, utilising tourism to spur economic growth and job creation, and provide local Irish companies with greater global links through which they can grow their business and export their goods and services. I would like to congratulate Dublin Airport on their tireless work in attracting new routes to our capital.

“The announcement of new routes to Dublin Airport will bring an increase in the number of overseas visitors coming to Ireland from new markets which will benefit the both greater Dublin area, and indeed, the entire country.

“Not only will the delivery of new routes support more jobs in the Airport, but an increase in the number of overseas visitors coming into Dublin Fingal will also boost local small businesses which are such an integral part of our community.

“I am very much aware from my meetings with Kevin Toland of the daa that Dublin Airport are continually vying for new routes and new connectivity for our country, this work has paid off with this announcement.”
