Council fall at first hurdle as good weather arrives.

Last weekend marked the first reasonable day, in weather terms that we have had in some time. Naturally, it brought tourists to many a scenic spot around the County.

As you may recall last summer, during the June Bank holiday weekend, Portmarnock beach was mobbed by revelling Fingalians who unfortunately left their rubbish behind them as the Council were ill prepared for 15,000 or so visitors on the day. This lead to widespread condemnation of the Councils preparidness.

Last weekend, Howth suffered the same fate if a little less significant that the events of June 2009. I have received two emails from visiting Dubliners and a message from a local Howth based retailer stating that if we can’t keep our towns tidy, how do we expect to attract tourists with their much needed cash to spend.

Fingal County Council – Must do better.
