Following the turning of the sod for the new North Runway at Dublin Airport, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell said that the second runway at Dublin Airport will have great economic benefits for Fingal, bringing more jobs to the region.
“I was pleased to attend official turning of the sod for the development of the new North Runway at Dublin Airport with An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, Transport Minister, Shane Ross TD and Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Anthony Lavin.
“The new runway at Dublin Airport will provide economic benefits for Fingal and Dublin as a whole. It will facilitate the on-going growth of passenger numbers at Dublin Airport and allow Ireland to boost its tourism offerings, bringing more overseas visitors into our local economy.
“It is estimated that the development of the North Runway and its future operations will support €2.2 billion of economic activity in Ireland by 2043.
“Furthermore, it will support the creation of up to 31,200 jobs in Ireland in the same period. Dublin Airport is already the foremost employer in the North County, and with the development of the second runway, the number of jobs in Dublin Fingal related to the Airport will undoubtedly increase.
“I note that the construction process is scheduled to take two years, with roughly 300 construction jobs on-site over that period.
“The long-term benefits of the development of this new runway will be felt throughout the North County over the years to come.”
