“Skerries Harbour is to receive €112,500 in funding under the 2015 Fishery Harbours Capital Investment Programme”, says Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell.
“In a real boost to our fishing industry, Minister Coveney has announced funding for Local Authority Harbour projects under the 2015 Fishery Harbours Capital Investment Programme, of which Skerries harbour is a recipient.
“I am delighted that as part of this funding, Fingal County Council is to receive €112,500 in funding to carry out under water repairs to sheet piles and repairs to outer harbour wall at Skerries Harbour.
“I am pleased that Skerries Harbour is to receive funding under the Fishery Harbours Capital Investment Programme. This investment in the repair and upkeep of Skerries Harbour is essential in order to ensure its sustainability into the future. It is great to see this funding being allocated for necessary works on our local harbours, following the allocation of €112,500 for the upkeep of Balbriggan harbour last month.
A total of €1.1 million has been allocated for Local Authority Harbour projects and it is great news for the local community that Skerries harbour is one of the 17 projects to benefit from investment under this programme.
“Our fishing, marine and tourism industries depend greatly on our harbour infrastructure and harbours throughout the North County are considered to be focal points of our local landscape by members of our seaside communities.
“Fine Gael is standing up for rural Ireland and working to ensure the fruits of the economic recovery are felt right across the country. Our fisheries sector is integral to that economic recovery in Dublin Fingal and Fine Gael in Government will continue to prioritise and resource the sector.”
