€112,500 in funding allocated to Balbriggan Harbour

“Balbriggan Harbour is to receive €112,500 in funding as part of a national programme for the repair and development of piers and harbours”, says Alan Farrell, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal

“This is great news for the community in Balbriggan. In total €1.6 million in State funding has been allocated to the Local Authority Harbour Development and Marine Leisure programme. I am delighted that Balbriggan Harbour is one of the 25 local authority piers and harbours set to benefit from this programme.

“The funding will be used for repair work to the outer harbour wall.

“This funding, for the repair and development of Balbriggan harbour, is crucial in terms of ensuring its long term sustainability. Seaside communities in the North County are proud of their harbours and we consider them to be a focal point of our local landscape, I am pleased that this investment is being in the upkeep of Balbriggan harbour.

“The new round of funding comes in addition to the €1.4m already announced to facilitate the completion of a number of Local Authority Storm Damage projects which were approved in 2014 as part of the Governments response to the extreme weather conditions in late 2013 and early 2014.

“This Local Authority programme forms part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marines’ 2015 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme, whereby the Department co-funds up to 75% of the total cost of approved projects, with the Local Authority providing the balance.”
