Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has said the allocation of €15.5 million to the Donabate Distributor Road which will provide 1,200 housing units by 2021, and €4.9 million for the Oldtown Mooretown road upgrade, allowing for the development of 800 housing units in the same period, will assist greatly in catering for social and affordable housing demand in the North County.
“I am delighted with the allocation of €15.5 million for the Donabate Distributor Road, and €4.9 million for the Oldtown Mooretown road upgrade from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.
“This funding allocation will allow for the development 2,000 housing units by 2021, with 1,200 of these resulting from the investment in the Donabate Distributor Road project, and 800 being provided under the Oldtown Mooretown road upgrade project.
“However, the potential exists for the development of 2,200 housing units from the Donabate Distributor Road project, and 3,200 housing units from the Oldtown Mooretown road upgrade project in the long-term.
“This investment will help to deliver a strong mix of social, rental, and private housing and it will ensure homes in our local area are more affordable for first-time buyers in particular.
“The announcement of this €20.4 million investment in Dublin Fingal was made under the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation programme, and this showcases what can be achieved when Government, local authorities, public bodies, and housing providers work together to deliver homes in communities where a strong demand exists for social, affordable, rental and private housing.
“Such is the need for the development of housing in the North County, and across the country, that it is essential that the on-going use of a collaborative approach between all relevant bodies is maintained.
“I will continue to actively engage with the Minister Simon Coveney to ensure the needs for further investment, and housing provision, in Dublin Fingal, remain to the fore of his Department’s agenda.”
