Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell is pleased that Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre is to receive €300,000 under the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme energy efficiency upgrade and enhanced disabled access initiative 2015. This funding allocation was announced by the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD.
“I am delighted that Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre will receive €300,000 which will assist them in terms of improving energy efficiency of their swimming pool, and therefore reducing their energy costs while also enhancing access for disabled swimmers.
“Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre swimming pool is one of sixteen pools nationwide to receive funding under this programme in 2015 and this investment in the swimming facilities in Portmarnock will be great news for both those who those involved in the PSLC and all swimmers in the area.
“Swimming is beneficial activity both in terms of recreation and exercise. Such facilities are important to local communities particularly as they provide people of all ages and abilities with a place where they can learn to swim and exercise at all times of the year, regardless of weather conditions.
“This investment being made into the swimming pool in the Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre is positive as it will assist in making these facilities more accessible to those with a disability while also facilitating a reduction in the energy costs related to maintaining this amenity.”
