“I am pleased that Dublin Bus has begun discussions with Fingal County Council with a view to progressing the possibility of establishing a bus service to serve the residents of Knocksedan Estate” says Alan Farrell, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal.
“As recent as three weeks ago Dublin Bus maintained in their response to me regarding the provision of a bus service to Knocksedan that ‘given the demand levels predicted and the funding requirements necessary to operate a service to Knocksedan the provision of such a service would, at this juncture, be unsustainable’. However, I simply refused to accept that no solution was available, particularly given that buses serving Harristown travel past Knocksedan at all hours of the day and night.
“I am glad to see that, following such representations, and due to the hard work of local residents who have continued to pursue this issue, we now have progress. Whilst the discussions between Dublin Bus and Fingal County Council are at an early stage, the Chief Executive of Dublin Bus has requested the Area Manager to arrange an on-site meeting to ascertain what options would be available in terms of facilitating the establishment of a bus terminus at Knocksedan.
“While this, in itself, is not a resolution to the issue, it is positive that we finally have progress in terms of ensuring a bus service is put in place to serve the residents of Knocksedan, who have been left for too long without direct access to public transport. I will continue to monitor progress on this matter closely and work towards finding a satisfactory resolution for members of the local community.”
