Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has called for those who are incapacitated and those with disabilities to check their eligibility for a refund and exemption from the Local Property Tax.
“I am delighted with Minister Noonan’s decision to extend the scope of reliefs from the Local Property Tax for certain incapacitated and disabled people. Certain properties which were purchased, built or adapted specifically to cater for a person who is permanently or totally incapacitated, where there is an award from the court or the Injuries Board or where a public trust fund is established, will now be exempted from the Local Property Tax.”
“Certain conditions apply for people to qualify for a refund or exemption from the Local Property Tax. The condition applying to a reduction in the amount payable is applicable to those who have made adaptions to their home which has increased the value of the property and brought it into a higher valuation brand. A property may be fully exempted from the Local Property Tax if it has been built, or bought, solely due to its suitability for a person who is permanently and totally incapacitated and therefore unable to earn an income.”
“I would urge those who are eligible to apply for an exemption from the Local Property Tax and I hope that this will assist in relieving any financial stress they may face. An application form for exemption from the Local Property Tax is available at www.revenue.ie/en/tax/lpt/extension-reliefs-disabled-incapacitated.html.
