Farrell congratulates Reilly on new Ministerial appointment

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has congratulated Dr James Reilly TD on his appointment as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.

“During his time in the Department of Health, Minister Reilly worked tirelessly to implement reform in the health sector during what was a time of great financial difficultly which placed unprecedented economic constraints on the health budget.”

“In addition to the reforming programme which Dr Reilly has tirelessly implemented, he has also had to oversee some of the most difficult decisions taken in the Department of Health in the history of the State. Under Minister Reilly’s leadership, we have seen a 30 percent reduction in the number of people who have to wait on trolleys in hospital and there have been large-scale reductions in the number of patients waiting over 8 months for inpatient and day surgery and waiting over 1 year for outpatient appointments. These are remarkable improvements given the dysfunctional health system which this government inherited.”

“I wish Minister Reilly well in his new role, and I am sure that he will relish this new opportunity. I look forward to working closely with him.”
