Farrell discusses need to ensure continued job creation in Dublin Fingal with Minister Mitchell O’Connor

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, was delighted to welcome the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD to the North County to discuss the Government’s jobs strategy, and how best to support local businesses.

“I was delighted to welcome the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor to Malahide yesterday (Monday) to talk about how best we can support local small businesses, and continue to create jobs in local communities throughout Dublin Fingal.

“I had a productive discussion with Minister Mitchell O’Connor following a local Fine Gael meeting where we discussed the continuation of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs. A further topic of discussion was, given our growing jobs market, how we can provide opportunities for those, from the North County, who emigrated to return home.

“Since the launch of the Action Plan for Jobs, the national unemployment rate has fallen from a high of 15.2% in February 2012 to 7.8% today. This reduction is also evident in all local social welfare offices serving the North County with a 40.4% reduction in the number of people on the live register in the Swords office since its peak in July 2012. In the same period, the figures in the Balbriggan office fell by 34.3%, while in the Kilbarrack office, serving Portmarnock, they decreased by 34.9%.

“I will continue to work closely with Minister Mitchell O’Connor, and her Department, to ensure the positive impact of the Action Plan for Jobs continues to be felt throughout Dublin Fingal.”
