Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, hosted an all-party briefing on Ebola with Barry Andrews and Darren Hanniffy from GOAL and Dr Ros Tamming from Concern this week. The purpose of this event is to inform TDs and Senators of the work these organisations are doing in response to the Ebola crisis, particularly in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
“The work organisations like GOAL and Concern do, especially in terms of tackling crises such as the current Ebola crisis in Western Africa, is invaluable. I invited both of these charities into Leinster House to provide a briefing to TDs and Senators to give us with an overview of the work they are doing and, more importantly, to tell us what we need to do to help them.
“Gaining control of the situation and preventing the further spread of Ebola is a main priority. The humanitarian work organisations like GOAL and Concern do has an important impact on Ireland’s standing in terms of international relations. While they do not directly represent the State, being Irish based charities, their work does reflect well on Ireland.
“I was delighted to provide GOAL and Concern with a platform to engage with TDs and Senators. In addition to this, I will be hosting the 8th Annual GOAL mile in Malahide this year on Christmas Day. This event in Malahide has raised over €28,000 since 2007 to support the valuable work done by this very worthy charity. Donations can be made on the day or at www.goal.ie. I look forward to meeting serious runners, joggers, and those who are partaking in a leisurely stroll on the day.”
The event in Malahide this year will take place on December 25th between 11am and noon and it will begin at the rear car park of Malahide Castle, off the Back Road.
