Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell was pleased to welcome the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy to Racecourse Commons in Lusk today (Wednesday) where 74 social housing units are being developed under the Government’s Rebuilding Ireland strategy.
“It was great to welcome my Fine Gael colleague, the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy to Lusk to visit Racecourse Commons where 74 social houses are being developed.
“Of those 74 social houses being constructed at Racecourse Commons in Lusk, 8 of those homes are already completed and occupied, with the remainder to be delivered in the first half of 2018.
“The development of social and affordable housing is of the utmost importance in tackling homelessness, and our local authority housing lists. With Fingal County Council having one of the longest social housing lists in the country, the delivery of these housing units is essential in terms of providing every person, and each family, who needs a home with one.
“While many local authorities may not have met their targets regarding the delivery of social housing units, Fingal County Council has taken a proactive approach and has significantly surpassed its original target, set under the Government’s Social Housing Strategy, of bringing 1,376 housing units on stream.
“While this is positive, it is vital that the delivery of social and affordable housing units remains the foremost priority for the Government and for our local authority.
“In addition to providing more social and affordable homes in order to tackle homelessness and housing lists, it is also essential that action is taken to address rental costs, and support first-time buyers and those who need to move for personal or family circumstances. These are core pillars of this Fine Gael led Government’s Rebuilding Ireland strategy.
“As the local Fine Gael TD in Dublin Fingal, I will continue to actively engage with Minister Eoghan Murphy and his Department in order to ensure the delivery of social and affordable housing units in Dublin Fingal remains a priority for both Government and our local authority.”
