Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has voiced his concern regarding the identification of structural issues in Ardgillan Community College which has necessitated the closure of a section of the school with immediate effect.
“I am very concerned following with the identification of structural issues in Ardgillan Community College, which has meant that a section of the school building has had to be closed.
“The fact that structural issues are present in any school building is wholly unacceptable, and our students and young people deserve better.
“It is vital that students are provided with the infrastructure and resources to receive their education in an environment which is conducive to their learning. Buildings with structural issues are certainly not such environments, and this is causing a disruption for all of the students affected, which should never have occurred in the first place.
“I hope that the necessary works on Ardgillan Community College can be completed promptly, and students and teachers can return to utilising the school premises as normal.
“I also believe it would be appropriate for the Government to investigate whether action may be necessary against the company who built the school in 2006, and as to whether the company should be prevented from applying for tenders for the construction of public buildings until such a time as the taxpayer can have faith that there will be no issues with the construction of these buildings in future.
“As the Fine Gael TD in Dublin Fingal, I will work to monitor progress on the remediation works for Ardgillan Community College closely, and echo the concerns of the local school community in this regard to Government.”
