Farrell welcomes Minister for Sport to St. Maur’s GAA Club, Rush & Skerries Rugby Club

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell was pleased to welcome the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Brendan Griffin TD to St. Maur’s GAA Club, Rush and Skerries Rugby Club to see how Sports Capital funding has benefitted the clubs and the local community.

Deputy Farrell said “I was pleased to welcome my Fine Gael colleague, the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Brendan Griffin TD to St. Maur’s GAA Club and Skerries Rugby Club to see how Sports Capital funding has benefitted these North County clubs.

“St. Maur’s received €102,400 in Sports Capital funding when the last round of grants was announced in November 2017 and Skerries Rugby Club was granted €148,500.

“This Sports Capital funding went towards projects allowing for the development of an all-weather pitch for both St. Maur’s GAA club and Skerries Rugby Club, benefitting the clubs themselves, players, the local schools and indeed the communities of Rush, Skerries and their surrounding areas. St. Maur’s GAA Club is now working towards gaining funding for the provision of floodlighting, and I will be happy to support all applications made by the club.

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to facilitate Minister Griffin’s visit to the St. Maur’s club to see these facilities and meet with representatives of the club including Club Chairperson Derek Farren and Club Secretary Peter Monks, and to Skerries Rugby Club to meet Club President Donogh McGowan with other club members, along with Senator James Reilly, Cllr. Tom O’Leary, and Fine Gael local election candidate for the Rush/Lusk area, Jim Monks.

“Sports Capital funding is vital in terms of supporting local sporting groups and organisations in every community throughout the North County. It also works to encourage more people to become more active more often which is important in terms of improving the overall health of individuals, particularly young people, within our localities.

“As the local Fine Gael TD in Dublin Fingal, I will continue to actively engage with Minister Griffin, and his Department to ensure the needs of our local sporting clubs and organisations in the North County are heard, and understood as we approach the announcement of the next round of Sports Capital grants in the coming months.” ffffffffffff
