Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has welcomed the announcement of a reduction in roaming charges in the EU under EU rules. As of July 1st, it will now be cheaper than ever to make and receive calls while travelling within the EU.
“This announcement is great news for holiday makers throughout Ireland and businessmen who travel for work in Europe. I am glad that roaming rates have decreased as this will be particularly beneficial for those in Dublin Fingal who work in the airport and travel on a daily basis as part of their job.”
“It will now cost 19 cent a minute to make a call, 5 cent to receive a call and 6 cent to send a text message. However, the biggest savings will be made in relation to mobile data charges which have been reduced by 55%, going from 45 cent to 20 cent per megabyte.”
“Roaming rates have reduced by 90% over the last seven years and, it is hoped that laws will be agreed by the end of the year which will allow for the complete abolition of roaming charges.”
