Farrell welcomes significant investment in built heritage

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement of a €5 million investment in heritage buildings from the National Lottery sale.

“Minister Deenihan is currently finalising the details for a new Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Fund, due to be introduced in 2014. This announcement is a vital boost to this sector, our built heritage is a real national asset and is a significant factor in attracting visitors to Ireland”

“During the economic crisis, built heritage lost more than 90% of its budget, the allocation of €5 million is a crucial investment towards maintaining our architectural history. Equally it is important that we remember the economic and cultural benefits local communities receive from the conservation, preservation and restoration of our built heritage”

“Dublin Fingal has some of the best examples of built heritage in our capital. Sites like Ardgillian, Malahide & Newbridge are vital for attracting tourists all year round. This announcement is a much-needed boost, not only for heritage buildings, but for jobs in construction and skilled trades.”
