Free EU rail travel passes available to young people in Fingal

Dublin Fingal TD has said young people in Fingal should consider applying for an initiative that will provide then of thousands of young people an opportunity to travel.

Deputy Farrell said, “The DiscoverEU initiative, operated by the European Commission will provide 60,000 young people with a free travel pass and ease the cost of travelling in Europe for young people.”

“This initiative opened for applications on Tuesday the 12th of October and will remain open until October 26th. It will be available to anyone in Fingal who was born between the 1st of July 2001 and the 31st of December 2003.”

“Successful applicants will be able to avail of free rail travel between March 1st, 2022 and February 28th, 2023.”

Deputy Farrell continued, “Free movement of people is a cornerstone of the European project, the sharing of cultures and history enriches all of our societies and strengthens the bonds we have built within the EU.”

“Travel can however be an expensive prospect, particularly for young people, that’s why the free rail pass is a really positive initiative that has helped over 70,000 people see Europe, since its inception in 2018.”

Deputy Farrell concluded, “I would urge all eligible people in Fingal to consider applying for this pass. Travel is a deeply rewarding experience for people of any age and it is my hope that as many young people as possible will have that opportunity.”
