Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell, has welcomed the announcement by Cricket Ireland that Malahide Cricket Grounds are to host a one day International between Ireland and England on May 8th next year.
“I am thrilled that Malahide Cricket Club has been chosen as the venue for the one day International clash between Ireland and England next year. This is great news as it once again places Malahide in the international spotlight. Following last year’s hugely successful international game at the venue, Malahide Cricket Club is staking its claim as the premier cricket ground in the State.”
“Last year, an attendance record was set with ten thousand people turning out to watch Ireland face England and a sell-out crowd is expected next year as the two sides encounter each other once again. This will be a massive boost, not only for cricket in Ireland, but also for the local Malahide community. Even though this is a one-day event, the fact that a sell-out crowd will be coming into Malahide will have a huge knock-on effect for local businesses and the international exposure which the town will gain as a result of this has the potential to have a massively beneficial long-term effect.”
“The exposure Malahide will gain will showcase the town as the beautiful tourist destination it is, and a resulting increase in tourist numbers will be very welcome news for all businesses based in, and around, the town. As a member of the Cricket Club since the age of 7, I look forward to watching Ireland play England in Malahide on what is certain to be a very exciting day for spectators and residents alike.”
