Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal has said that he is disappointed that the Orkambi drug for Cystic Fibrosis was not recommended for approval by the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics.
“I was disappointed to learn that the Orkambi drug for Cyctic Fibrosis was not recommended for approval by the National Centre of Pharmacoeconomics. The National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics took this decision based on the high price being charged by the manufacturer of the drug.
“It is important to note that this is not a final decision by the HSE regarding the Orkambi drug, but I believe it is essential that new price negotiations between the Government and the company which manufacture this drug begin with the utmost urgency.
“While the Government cannot be held to ransom by drug manufacturers, this drug may benefit many people who have cystic fibrosis in the North County, and across the country. For this reason, I hope that the Government and manufacturing company will enter new negotiations and come to an agreement on a sensible price as soon as possible.”
