Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has said the allocation of over €1 million to sports clubs and organisations in the North County will greatly benefit local communities across the constituency. This €1 million is part of a nationwide allocation of €41 million. These grants are in addition to the €2.7 million allocated to the constituency between 2012 and 2014 by this Government.
“I am delighted that 17 sporting clubs and organisations in Dublin Fingal will receive a combined €1 million in funding under the Sports Capital Programme. These grants, announced by Minister Michael Ring, will provide a terrific boost to the successful clubs and it will prove to be very significant for the local economy in the North County.
“The fact that 17 clubs and organisations from Dublin Fingal were successful is testament to the quality of these clubs, and sports in general in the North County.
“Providing sports clubs with this funding is of the utmost importance in terms of supporting their future development and growth. Furthermore, it is essential to continue to boost sports clubs and organisations in order to promote sport locally and increase the number of people participating in sport and physical activity. This is vital in the fight against obesity; after all, projections from the World Health Organisation have shown that Ireland is on track to become the most obese country in Europe.
“I offer my commiserations to the clubs that were unsuccessful with their application and I would urge them to consider reapplying to the Sports Capital Programme in the future. I am pleased that the hard-work of the successful local sports groups in the North County has been rewarded with the allocation of over €1 million which will undoubtedly benefit both the local community and economy.
