Record number of applications made to the ‘Sports Capital and Equipment Programme’

Dublin Fingal TD and Fine Gael Spokesperson on Climate Action, Alan Farrell has highlighted the volume of applications following his submission on Parliamentary Questions regarding the scheme.

Deputy Farrell said, “The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme closed for applications in March. A total of 3,106 clubs had submitted applications by that time, seeking a total of €200 million. This included dozens of clubs across Dublin Fingal.”

“As a result of the record-breaking number of applications, it is expected to take the Department some time to finalise the approved applications for this year’s €40 million fund.”

Deputy Farrell continued, “It is envisaged that applications that have been submitted for ‘equipment only’, will be provided an allocation by this summer, while applications relating to other projects will be determined later in the year.”

“Sports clubs are at the heart of our communities and provide young people with healthy and constructive ways to spend their time. I hope to see the continued investment and development of the social infrastructure we need.”

Deputy Farrell added, “I have engaged with Dublin Fingal sports clubs throughout this process meeting numerous clubs in advance of their applications to answer their questions. I will be continuing my contact with these clubs, should they need further assistance with their submissions.”
