Increase in Sports Funding for 2014

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has today (Thursday) welcomed the confirmation from the Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Transport & Sport, Michael Ring TD that there will be a €19m increase in Government sport funding for the coming year.

This involves a new round of Sports Capital Programme funding, comprising four components: The Irish Sports Council, Sports Capital Programme, National Sports Campus and Local Authority Swimming Pools Programme.

“Dublin Fingal has a diverse sporting community with soccer in Swords, cricket in Malahide and Rugby in Balbriggan not to mention several thriving GAA clubs right across the county, this is excellent news for all organisations who rely on the commitment and fundraising efforts of volunteers”.

“I have seen at first-hand how many hours are put in by club members on a purely voluntary basis. This Fine-Gael led government are committed to ensuring sporting clubs and their volunteers receive that extra bit of support they deserve, indeed this commitment is evident considering this is the first increase in the sporting grants since the economic crash of 2008 and adds to the €26 million allocated in the early part of 2013 of which just over €1 million was provided to Fingal based sporting organisations.
