St.Oliver Plunkett NS, Malahide approved to tender for new school building

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell is delighted with the announcement that St.Oliver Plunkett’s in Malahide has been given the go ahead to proceed to tender for their new school building.

“I am delighted with confirmation from the Department of Education and Skills, that St. Oliver Plunkett’s National School in Malahide has finally been approved to go to tender.

“For almost 20 years, there have been many false promises, and many failed attempts to get this project off the ground, I am pleased that we will now finally see progress in terms of providing students with a brand new, state of the art, school building. This new school will have 35 classrooms which will replace the existing accomodation.

“As a former pupil of St. Oliver Plunkett’s, I would like to thank the board of management, the current and former principal, and all of the parents who have worked to ensure this project remained to the fore of the agenda. The school will now be contacted directly by the Department’s School Building Unit with details on the projects and the funding amount awarded.

“I have consistently pushed for a new building for St. Oliver Plunkett’s since I was first elected to Fingal County Council in 2004 and continued my work in this regard following my election to Dáil Éireann in 2011. I am delighted that the hard-work of every person involved in this project is finally ensuring the new school becomes a reality.

“Fine Gael in Government is determined to ensure that our recovering economy can benefit everyone in society. Our children should be number one on this priority list and it is essential that they can learn in a safe and modern environment which is conducive to their learning.

“Speaking about this announcement, Minister Bruton said “At the heart of what this government is trying to do, is to use our economic success to make life a little better for everyone – this announcement will make a real difference to the local community”
