The long awaited upgrade of the Swords Road, Malahide has been deferred by Fingal County Council due to insufficient funding. The project, estimated to cost in the region of €2.5 Million has been put on hold due to a significant reduction in the amount of Government subvention to the council.
Having fought for the upgrade since 2005, I am extremely disappointed that this project is unable to go ahead at this time. The scheme would have seen a significant improvement in the road and footpath quality from the Millview Road junction to Waterside Estate in Swords, just before the M1 flyover. In addition, cycle lanes were to be added to facilitate safe cycling for commuters, school goers and leisure users to visit Swords and beyond.
Needless to say that once the funding for transportation works is finalised in late February 2009 I will be attempting to ensure that this is the only major project of its type to be axed.
