Third round of Sports Capital funding under this Fine Gael led Government following years of failure on the part of the previous Government in this area.
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has called on sporting organisations in the North County to consider applying for funding from the 2015 round of the Sports Capital Programme which opened today (Tuesday).
“This is the third round of Sports Capital funding being made available by this Government to support sporting organisations with the improvement of the facilities and to provide them with new equipment. I am delighted that the Minister of State for Sport, Michael Ring TD, has secured an additional €40 million to provide in funding in this round of the Sports Capital Programme which brings the amount this Government has committed to the development of sports infrastructure to €130 million.
“Sports Capital funding is a vital resource in terms of getting more people involved in sport and physical activity, while it is also important in assisting people to reach their full potential in their chosen sport. In fact, 90% of organisations who have received grants under this programme have told the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport that the facilities which have been funded have subsequently experienced an increase in the number of people getting involved.
“Many communities in Dublin Fingal will have already felt the benefits that the allocation of funding to their local clubs can have with over €1.7 million having been allocated to organisations in the North County last year on top of the €1 million which was provided in 2012. Organisations from Malahide, Portmarnock, Swords, Donabate, Rush, Skerries and Balbriggan have all received grants under this programme
“Sports Capital funding not only provides important funding for facilities and equipment, but it is essential in terms of tackling obesity and encouraging more people to become physically active. I would urge all of those who may be interested in applying to the Sports Capital Programme to register on the online system before 5pm on Friday, April 10th and to ensure their full applications are submitted online at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie by 5pm on Friday, April 24th.”
