The passing of Dr Garret FitzGerald

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of former Taoiseach Dr Garrett FitzGerald, in the early hours of this morning.

“I had the honour of meeting Dr FitzGerald on my first day as a Deputy in Dáil Éireann. He will be remembered as a man of true integrity and intelligence, with the courage to bring Ireland into a modern era.
“Dr Fitzgerald leaves behind a remarkable legacy, most importantly his key role in the peace process signing the Anglo Irish Agreement of 1985 which has paved the way for peace on our island.

“I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be sorely missed.”
