Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell is delighted to announce the Global Horizons Youth Initiative which was recently launched by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan TD.
“I am delighted that the Global Horizons Youth Initiative has been launched by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Iveagh Scholars section of this initiative is focused on providing transition year students with work experience in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. This is the first time any Government Department has run a programme such as this and it will be a great way to engage secondary school students with politics and diplomacy.”
“During their time in the Department, the chosen students will meet with diplomats who are on duty in Ireland and abroad, visit Leinster House and also visit foreign embassies in Dublin. This is a prime opportunity for transition year students to discuss, and share their own views, on key issues of Irish foreign policy across a wide array of topics, from human rights to promoting Ireland’s economic interests abroad. In order to avail of this opportunity, students are invited to submit an essay or a short video focusing on the theme of ‘Ireland’s values’. Based upon these submissions, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will invite thirty entrants to complete a week of work experience within the Department.”
“This is an invaluable opportunity for transition year students and it is encouraging to see a Government Department focusing on engaging with young people, some of whom may be our future diplomats and politicians. I would urge all interested transition year students in Dublin Fingal to consider entering this competition.”
