Wise up this Hallowe’en

Fine Gael TD for Dublin North Alan Farrell is calling on residents of Dublin North to break with dangerous traditions this Hallowe’en.

“I am urging the people of Dublin North to be vigilant and play their part in keeping our community safe this Hallowe’en.

“Not all traditions should be maintained, in particular ones that including the purchase of dangerous fireworks and the burning of unknown and unsafe materials in our public open spaces.

“It is not acceptable for young people destroy our open spaces either because of one night of illegal revelry or because it happens every year. The taxpayer forks out in the region of €150,000 in Fingal alone and puts enormous strain on emergency services.

“All bonfires are illegal and dangerous and you can play your part by reporting suspicious behaviour to both An Garda Síochana and local authorities anonymously. Where materials are being stocked in public places they will be removed once the authorities have been notified.

“This has been the year for change. We have already voted out a jaded government and are allowing reform to happen. Let’s continue to break bad traditions and have a safe Hallowe’en.”
